2012 State Conference

Call for Proposals:

Maine Educators of the Gifted and Talented (MEGAT)

2012 Annual Conference

Standards Not Standardization:

Integrating Rigor and Creativity

Friday, November 2nd, 2012

8:00 am to 3:00 pm

Black Bear Inn, Orono, ME

At this conference we will consider the needs of Gifted and Talented students and focus on instructional strategies that support their learning in a standards-based context.  We know standards tell educators what students are expected to know and be able to do.   However, teaching to standards does not mean that everyone must teach the same way at the same time.

How can we use standards to develop rigorous and creative programming based on student readiness level, learning style and interest?  How do we encourage students to get beyond a minimal standard race and to aspire to a deeper level of understanding?   We will explore these questions, use standards to encourage teacher creativity and deepen our understanding of best practices in Gifted and Talented education.
